Art Therapy Intervention
The Three Scribble Technique
by Claudia Trevithick, LPC, ATR-BC
Materials: Three 9” x 12” sheets of white paper, oil pastels, pencil, and one piece of notepaper.
Objective: Client will make three scribbles in three seconds. The therapist says “go,” “two,” and “stop.” Label the scribbles, one, two, and three with a title for each. Ask the client to use all three words and make a sentence or two. The client can free associate to create sentences. Look at each scribble separately and slowly associate thoughts, feelings, and relate it to the self.
The writing on these lead to at least 30 minutes of conversation.
